Diffuse Lighting:
For this one, I broke the shapes up even more to show more form and subtle form shifts. Remember, Diffuse lighting is all about being subtle.
I simplified this one a lot more. I started to try and arrange the nuts up top to lead your eye around.. But did not get around to finish it. Remember, use things as a design excuse so you can help your composition :).
Simplified this a lot and punched up the color. See how a few color temp differences can help it a lot. I would also avoid pure black, and use colors to define the surfaces.
This painting was mostly in direct lighting so I changed it up. I am using the dappled lighting pattern to help lead the eye. The knife is a great lead in for this image, and then I used the cast shadow of the cup onto the cheese to lead your eye up to the top dappled lighting so we can make a full circle. Always think of things as patterns to help you focus :)
